I work at the UOA/UOS location.and I want to let everyone know that the mechanics are being bombarded with Conway's propaganda.I see them walking up to the meeting room and having their talks. But funny thing is one minute the union buster is talking next thing you know the mechanics have taken over the meeting? So I just want to let the mechanics know that some of us are proud of them for asking for representation and stay strong .Conway is trying hard to change their minds about the Union.Stay strong UOS hopefully others shop's will have the balls to support the cause for a better future.JUST REMEMBER PEOPLE IT'S UP TO US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.IT'S NOT UP TO THE UNION OR CONWAY,IT'S US WHO CAN CHANGE HOW WERE TREATED OR LOOKED AT.THE UOS VOTE IS ON JULY 15th.

IAM Mechanics Local 701 organized 19 new members at Rush Truck Centers in Carol Stream, IL recently.

"Local 701 has good working relationship with Rush Truck Centers at other represented locations. Management showed a great deal of repect to their mechanics and did not use anti-union tactics." said Organizer Rich Handler. "Our new members voted almost unanimously for a Mechanics Local 701 contract."

Health Insurance, a pension and a pathway to improved wages were top priorities in the election.

Washington, D.C., May 20, 2015 – The National Mediation Board (NMB) this week certified the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) as joint administrators for labor contracts covering 30,000 workers employed at the recently merged US Airways and American Airlines.

The TWU-IAM Association will immediately begin serving as lawful collective bargaining representatives for Fleet Service, Mechanic and Related, and Stores employees at the new American Airlines.

“With today’s ruling, the Associations can now get down to the business of negotiating the industry’s best contracts that our members deserve,” said TWU International President Harry Lombardo and IAM General Vice President Sito Pantoja in a joint statement.

The IAM Western Territory racked up several organizing victories in the last week of May, bringing in a total of 329 new members and raising the territory’s organizing success rate to 89 percent.

Western Territory General Vice President Gary Allen expressed his great appreciation for the hard work and activity underway in the territory.

“The corporate anti-worker agenda stands to decimate the working class at every turn,” said Allen. “I commend our leadership throughout the territory for investing in people through our GPS activist training program that helps working families stand up, fight back, and have a voice in their futures and their livelihoods.”

Among the wins are 224 workers at Cadence Aerospace-Giddens who voted to join Seattle District 751. Workers at the company’s two Everett, WA plants produce precision machined aerospace components, subassemblies and kits, and do sheet-metal forming.

District 160 welcomed new members at Western Pneumatic Tube in Kirkland, WA who voted unanimously for IAM representation.

On May 27, the L3 unit at Moffett Field in San Jose, CA voted overwhelming to join IAM District 725. The workers ignored visits by Corporate HR and multiple company letters to their homes and sent a strong message to L3 that they want the IAM and they will not accept business as usual.

“We are very excited for Local 2228, this is their first organizing victory in more than 10 years and the first of more to come,” said District 725 Directing Business Representative Larry Olinger.

IAM Local 845 gained a recognition agreement for the AOC group at Creech Air Force Base in Las Vegas. The unit is a support group for Battlespace and includes Quality Control, Production Control, and Supply Technicians.

IAM District 10, Local 873 at John Deere Horicon Works in Wisconsin ratified a new labor agreement recently that provides benefits for both the union and the company.

"The agreement included substantial wage increases, lump sum payments, additional vacation time and increased 401(k) benefits for full time employees," said Business Representative Benito Elizondo. "In addtion to the full time benefits, the supplemental / associate employees received vacation, recall rights and the same attendance program as the full time workers. The supplemental / associate employees now have rights to the grievance procedure and just cause for discharge."

In addtion to the contractual agreement, John Deere has comitted to close a non-union faciltiy in Janesville, WI and move that work to the Horicon plant. The Company put in writing that they would invest approximately 40 million dollars in renovations and new facilities at the John Deere Horicon Works.

IAM Mechanics Local 701 in Carol Stream, IL brought 12 new members into the IAM by winning an organizing drive at McGrath Downtown Auto in Chicago, IL.

"Our new members fought off attempts by the company and an anti-union firm that tried to influence the outcome of the election. I'm very proud of them," said Mike Wendling, Organizer for Mechanics Local 701. "They want respect in the workplace, the benefits of the Mechanics Local 701 Standard Automotive agreement, the Local 701 pension, the opportunity to train and advance along with the wages and benefits they deserve."

What about the dock workers. Seems like there being to the side. Last time I heard they also have a vote. Show some respect.

Anonymous said...

Happy 4th to all from tulsa, Oklahoma

With ALL due respect to the dock worker they better start uniting along with the drivers.Because if dock want to have a stable future with Conway. they better have a contract with representation either wise your expendable just like everyone else at Conway.I want everyone to remember Conway is a company about making money any way it sees fit.So cutting cost by having cheap labor is a great profit making system.

Im just wondering if any CONWAY investor's coming here and read this blog?If any investors would like to post their opinion,Im one Conway worker that would like to know what they think about any of this??

This is what Doug noted in the shareholders press.
.DEAR FELLOW SHAREHOLDERS
Our company delivered a solid
performance in 2014 as each of
our business units executed our
core strategies for continuous
improvement. A modestly
expanding economy provided the
backdrop for growth in both the
trucking and logistics markets. In
particular, our trucking operations
benefited from consistent demand,
a stable pricing environment and
expanding margins.
Our profit improvement and strong balance sheet enabled us to
deploy a portion of our cash balance to shareholders. During
2014, we increased our common stock dividend by 50 percent
and initiated a $150 million share repurchase program. In
addition, we improved the funded status of our defined benefit
pension plan with incremental contributions.
CON-WAY FREIGHT: Our less-than-truckload (LTL) company
had a number of noteworthy achievements in 2014. In safety
and maintenance, Con-way Freight earned the best safe driving
and vehicle maintenance scores as ranked by the Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for LTL fleets of
similar size. Safety is our number one core value, and these
accomplishments are a testament to the performance of our
professional drivers and skilled mechanics that operate and
maintain our fleet.

Too busy trying to figure out ways to screw us and making a new video on how to spin this whole messed up situation.

A new report by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) notes that since 1978, CEO pay has grown 90 times faster than that of rank-and-file workers. So while CEO compensation went from $1.5 million to $16.3 million, the average private-sector production and non-supervisory worker (which is 82 percent of the workforce) rose from $48,000 to only $53,200 in 2014. As a result, the top CEOs now make more than 300 times what typical workers earn.

As EPI states:
Although corporations are posting record-high profits and the stock market is booming, the wages of most workers remain stagnant, indicating they are not participating equally in prosperity. Meanwhile, CEO compensation continues to rise even faster than the stock market.
In order to curtail the growth of CEO pay, we need to implement higher marginal income tax rates and promote rules such as “say on pay.” At the same time, we need to implement an agenda that promotes broad-based wage growth so typical workers can share more widely in our economic growth.
America finds itself where it is because of corporate greed. Sky-high salaries with golden parachutes for executives have become the norm. Meanwhile, more and more hard-working Americans are being forced into low-wage jobs because of bad trade deals moving middle-class jobs overseas.

There is one thing that could help overcome this yawning income gap -- unions. A look back in U.S. history shows our greatest economic period, the 1950s, was during a time when union membership was at its highest. Even the International Monetary Fund agrees more labor membership would help workers.

As a recent Business Insider article states, the U.S. needs to find a solution to an economy that looks good on paper but when looked at more closely is hammering workers:
Organizing may not be the only solution to income inequality. But it's a big one, and it could move the economy in the right direction.

Drivers and Mechanics Join Union Through Card-Check
It didn’t take long for 19 ready-mix cement truck drivers and mechanics in Sutton, Mass., to become card-carrying Teamster members, after a one-day sign-up with Teamsters Local 170 in Worcester, Mass.
Workers expressed their overwhelming interest in forming a union at Dauphinais Concrete. Shortly thereafter, Local 170 Secretary-Treasurer Mike Hogan reached a card-check agreement with the company, wherein management agreed to stay neutral. This allowed local union representatives to meet with the drivers and mechanics before they started their shifts.
“In one day the workers decided overwhelmingly in favor of Teamsters representation,” Hogan said. “We’re excited to add 19 new drivers and mechanics to our already dedicated Teamster ready-mix workers with Local 170, and we are looking forward to moving forward quickly on contract proposals. “
“There are several former Teamsters at the company that are excited to be back with the Teamsters Union,” said Paul Stuart, an organizer with Local 170.
Tom Neil was a 16-year Teamster in a former job and he has worked at Dauphinais since 2013.
“The company has been growing since I’ve been here. I’m all for the union and I’m looking forward to being a Local 170 member again,” Neil said.
This victory is the latest in a string of organizing wins for Local 170 in the past month. Workers who recently joined Local 170 include:
