Dictator in ULX Terminal

RICHARD PEREZAnonymous
I'm Richard Perez a 17 yr.employee that was wrongfully fired from Conway at ULX L.A. Downtown Service Center. My termination was a retaliation from Paul Styers ULX Manager for going to a few union meetings to know my rights. I've been harassed by this manager for over a year. Write ups on log book just because I forgot to total my hours when other drivers didn't do a log when they were suppose to. To top it off management would put a list of drivers name on the dispatch window for drivers can correct thier log book and never got write ups. WHY DIDN'T I GET THAT SAME TREATMENT? In the last two weeks of my employement my hours were getting cut as I would come into work because management wanted to save money, but yet there would be special privleges to certain drivers that were on 3 to 4 HOURS of "OVERTIME". When I questioned Mr. Styers about it, everyday was a different answer. I even got called into the office the following week because I didn't say "good moring" to Mr. Styers one morning. Safety meetings with inbound shift, city drivers and outbound shift on a daily weekly basis. What happen to the saftey or informational meetings with the Line Drivers? Company Policies only come into effect when it's at thier convience to write an employee up with an L.O.I. or to TERMINATE EMPLOYEES. "DRIVERS, TIME TO STAND UP FOR OUR RIGHTS"!!!!!!

Sorry to hear what happened to you Richard, but this is a good example of working for an "at will" company.

Without having any representation, a union, your on your own! Richard is right. Its time for us to organize companies like Conway and FedEx Freight!

If you are going to tell management your in favor of having a union at your workplace you must start documenting everything when your confronted by management. Have witnesses who can confirm your documentation. A lawyer will need as much information you can them to help with a lawsuit. Because you have no union to help you!

But most of all do your job right! Comply with company policies! Day in and day out. Because they cannot fire you for organizing out right, its against the law. But they will use in compliance to terminate you!

Yes company policy is at their convenience, and don't forget too brother, you and your brothers and sisters of Conway are at WILL...without a Collective Bargaining Agreement, you have no Voice, no Respect and no Dignity.
The C.B.A is voted by the employees who are forming a union at Conway.
The importance here now is to educate others, educate them on their Rights, educate them on the Employees Bill Of Rights.
You could talk about your Union Rights at work, but you must know, you have to be off the clock, and your other party too.
You could talk about your Union Rights at break or lunch, in the break room or in the parking lot.
If you are starting to get harass by management's of Conway, start documenting everything, remember, write it in Cronological.
Be Wise and Organize now!!!

As a union employee I cannot imagine working in this type of environment. Having to deal with management that favors certain people, that are bigots, or just come to work with a surly attitude is just a shame. That's why you guys need to organize. That way everyone is on equal footing. You get treated with respect and if there's any harassment or discrimination then you are free to point fingers without fear of losing your job. Con-way will someday have to pay the piper for the way they've treated their employees over the years.

This type of abuse can be eliminated when you are under a CBA. There are avenues to pursue such abuse that will not be swept under the carpet. Having grievance machinery at your fingertips to combat abusive managers is worth the price of your union dues alone. It is high time that the employees of Conaway stand together as one and put an end to the tyranny.

any one unjustly terminated needs to contact the NLRB 1-866-667-6572 it may take a few days for them to get back to you,but they need more drivers to do this to show a pattern of wrongfull termination, when in reality its for our union activity, another one of there union busting methods, remember sign a card vote yes.

Conway wants robots that only say yes right away sir. If you want to last a longtime you have to kiss a lot of behind and willing to rat out your felllow drivers.

Santos R (ULX)
Richard Perez is among one of the many great hardworkers that has been terminated from ULX for what I believe is retaliation against our pro union views. Almost all pro union drivers have been terminated within the past two and a half years, except in my case because I resigned and went owner operator. I didnt feel comfortable there any more as I was often questioned about my day and felt as if I was under an umbrella of suspicion for nothing although I and others considered me one of the most honest and hardworking employees of ULX. With the exception of ULX's intelligence agency aka VVTF which keeps Mr.Steyers well informed of union activity and other drivers everyday activity most drivers there feel stressed out, unfairly treated, and feeling that the most minor mistake will put them under the microscope if not terminated. Come on guys put an end to this and live better, work union.

I remember doing business with Conway at ulx from Vernon,Ca. Conway use to reward their drivers for going the extra mile for the company and their customer. What has happened to you guys now, CONWAY!!!! Now you're punishing your drivers for doing their job by terminating them. Yes drivers, sounds like you do need a UNION to represent you. ex-208 union driver.

RICHARD hey bro keep your head up. as a former employee of conway ulx myself, i also was terminated by PAUL STYERS, what a joke of a man. I was also pro-union went to a few meetings to educate myself a bit of my rights and it slowly creeped up on me. on june 2011 i gave paul styers a smile dat i was trying to prevent when i was being walked-out.CONWAY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS EMPLOYEES. conway preaches SAFETY. its the last thing they think about. all they care is about their numbers. One gets hammered for "stealing company time". BUT its funny nothing happens to a manager as himself for driving a company vehicle intoxicated. or taking old replaced light fixtures and selling them for scrap. isnt that stealing? or crashing in the parking lot to fellow employees because hes uncareful? i can keep going, but i know all you hardworking colleages have important things to do. and i dont think i have more space available. WE ALL NEED UNION, WAKE UP BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

Hey Paul how do you live knowing thay you can fire good working people with young families that depend on them! How do you sleep at night ? Corporate should fire you and throw you out to the street like you have to many good drivers who only wanted to be respected do the best job they could for Conway. Having a union would of kept those drivers still working and being loyal to conway. Your mother and father collect that Teamster pension every month and thats what supported you growing up. Shame on you Paul Karma is a bad thing to mess with.

I wonder what costs Conway more, a driver being 10 or 20 minutes late or out of route or a termknal manager that lives an hour away, leaves on two or three hour lunches and all of this done with a company car and paid for with a company credit card. I didnt know this guy grew up in a union family and yet treats his workers so bad. Wow

I work for Conway at Santafe Springs Terminal and the way they treat people there seems to be modern day slavery. It is Rediculous How the workers let the Co. Get away with it. We live in America damn It! We need to get together and become Teamsters. Then we"ll show them.
