Group Demands That Company Reinstate Three Drivers

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J.) – A group of more than 50 Teamsters and supporters, including state lawmakers and the head of the state AFL-CIO, protested outside the XPO Logistics, Inc. terminal here today and demanded that the company reinstate three fired workers they say were punished for supporting a recent union drive.
“XPO has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to run vicious anti-worker, anti-union campaigns across the country, but the company has reached new lows by unlawfully firing three workers here in the Trenton area,” said Ernie Soehl, Director of the Teamsters National Freight Division. “Our message is clear: we will not tolerate the company firing workers who are exercising their federally protected right to organize.”
The group included state Sen. Linda Greenstein (D-Cranbury); state Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo (D-Hamilton Township); Charlie Wowkanech, President of the New Jersey AFL-CIO; Laurel Brennan, Secretary-Treasurer of the New Jersey AFL-CIO; and Jeff Sagnip, district director for Rep. Chris Smith (R), as well as AFSCME members. They marched on the XPO terminal and presented management with a letter demanding that the company meet to discuss the firings, and to reinstate the three workers. Management refused to meet with the group.
A group of 34 workers at XPO in Hamilton voted to join Teamsters Local 701 in North Brunswick on April 14. The three fired workers, Tom Bower, Ivo Cifelli and Laszlo Rituper, served on the union Organizing Committee.
Cifelli has logged nearly 500,000 accident-free miles and was hired by Con-way in 2010. “It was clear that we were fired for supporting the union,” he said. “We need a Teamster contract. Without a Teamster contract, this can happen to anyone.”
Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Visit www.teamster.org for more information. For more information about the XPO campaign, visit Facebook: XPO Exposed.

    1. Here at XPN we can't get time off until October! Plus if we come in late because we have a doctors appointment we will be issued a half point, and we have to call before coming in late to make sure the still need us to come in. This manager is the worse manager I have ever worked for! Drivers are leaving they can't find anyone dumb enough to come work here. If there ever was a terminal that needed a union it's XPN!!

  13. Are you nuts? FedEx sells its whole brand from small pkg to overnight to freight. They are not giving up any part of their massive presence.

    1. Actually he's not nuts. There was an article in the Wall Street journal a couple days ago, it said Bradley Jacobs is eyeing 3 different acquisitions. One was FedEx Freight. He made an offer to buy them for 5.5 Billion dollars. The guy couldn't spell, but he did know what he was talking about.

  14. Sorry for the spelling guys i never been good at it but i heard line hall drivers talking about xpo buying fed ex so i wanted to ask. Thank you

  15. I stand by my statement. ARE YOU NUTS ?
Anyone can offer any amount for anything. My father always says everyone is for sale. Even the cashier. But FedEx likes to sell their whole pkg. Why would the sell off freight? It may not be profitable but it completes the whole sales pitch. They can stand to take a loss if it retains profitable business elsewhere.

  18. July 6, the NLRB ordered XPO to stop refusing to recognize 179 as the exclusive bargaining representative and to start bargaining a contract with Local 179. The workers voted to form their union in October 2016. The company can appeal this latest ruling, but once again the NLRB is siding with workers and ruling against XPO. The company is being forced by the NLRB to follow the law.....

Another win for the worker's. Congratulations to all of you who are standing united and strong..

  19. Orlando NOF may be back on track it seems the morning dockworkers are not all that pleased with xpo working conditions. and more and more drivers are at their breaking points... management pushing too hard and back to there disrespectful ways. There is a lot of favoritism going on here
.Also here in Orlando we have a full time driver trainer/safety guy by the name of fred comes in at 5am and stays till 6pm every night doesn't do a damn thing its pretty much payback for being a company snitch against union organizing. thing is hes got everyone so pissed cause all he does is b.s. while they bust ass. And our morale is gotten pretty bad and surely he's a big part of the blame, guy is so full of himself and constantly talks down to drivers . Do any Other service centers have douche bags like this as well ?? Just thought i'd put that out there... stay strong brothers

    1. Douche bags like that are on every single terminal for a reason to keep us all divided.
The only way to stop favoritism and get respect is to stick together and vote yes for union representation just like Miami is doing we need to stop believing all the union lies and bull shit anti union videos management is making watch.
Look at terminals that have voted for union representation some are negotiating a contract and others the company is spending a lot of money on top dollar lawyers to delay the process. We need to keep supporting those terminals that have voted for union representation.
