We received this message from the Justice for Port Drivers campaign and wanted to share it with you!
As Amazon announced a plan to hire 100,000 temps to handle the holiday rush, the ugly truth about the horrid conditions of those who work in the company’s supply chain are being revealed. Recently, warehouse worker Jeff Lockhart Jr., a married father of three, died working at an Amazon fulfillment center in Chester, Virginia. But it isn’t just in Amazon’s warehouses that workers are suffering. Consider the story of Julio Garcia, who hauls imports for Amazon off the docks at our nation’s largest seaport – the Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach.
Day in and day out, Julio Garcia gets in the company’s truck, drives to the port, and transports the electronics, clothes, and toys that Americans buy online every day from Amazon, com . Julio Garcia consistently works 50-60 hour weeks as a professional truck driver, yet his family was denied a home loan by the bank because they deemed his income “unstable.”
How could this be? Julio Garcia drives full-time for one of Amazon’s contractors, a giant company called XPO Logistics that is valued at more than $2.5 Billion. XPO, like thousands of similar American corporations, engages in an employment scheme that leaves his family unable to show a “stable” income despite “stable” work by treating its workers as employees but paying them as “independent contractors.” This scheme not only allows them to avoid payroll taxes, but also lets the company deduct their business expenses from drivers’ paychecks. They charge the drivers to drive the company truck, charge him to register, insure, fuel, and maintain their truck, and they even charge drives to park the company trucks at the company yard! “There are weeks that they charge me so much that I make less than the minimum wage – and some weeks I owe the company for the privilege of working for them,” said Julio Garcia.

This is wage theft and it is illegal, so Julio Garcia is one of more than 700 professional truck drivers in California who have filed a claim with the state Labor Commissioner. This week, he and his coworkers delivered a petition with a list of their demands. It’s fallen on deaf ears, so XPO drivers are again on strike – their 8thstrike in the last two years.

Sincerely,
Justice for Port Drivers campaign

  2. XPO chief Bradley Jacobs wants to create a one-stop shop for logistics service and Karr says feedback from customers, as well as the potential cost savings a bigger XPO can extract from operations, suggests big value over the long run.

Can anyone explain what Bradley means by this,>>>>>cost savings a bigger XPO can extract from operations??..... Could this mean operations cuts? Oh yeah that's right. No changes for a year. Everything is good. Because we love xpo and xpo loves us..Right?

  3. So glad we are XPO NOW....

The five-day strike was initiated Oct. 26 by drivers at Pac 9 Transportation and XPO Logistics.
“This is the third strike at XPO,” driver Manuel Gonzales told the Militant. “The other two times I stayed home and didn’t work. This time I’m on the picket line. I want them to see me. They cheat us on the miles they pay us. We pay for everything. Now is a good time to try for the union.”
Over the next few days drivers at Intermodal Bridge Transport, warehouse workers at California Cartage and drivers at Gold Point Transportation joined the strike. On Oct. 30, the last day of the strike, a press conference was held outside Los Angeles City Hall to announce the next steps in the fight. “I would like this wage theft and misclassification stopped,” said XPO driver Isabel Samayoa. “I want to get what I think we are all entitled to.”
After winning 113 wage theft claims for $12 million, drivers have filed with the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement 14 new claims against the bosses totaling $3.5 million, with 550 claims still pending...

  7. Have a Happy Thanksgiving Everyone @ Xpo Logistics.

    Part #1
Hear we go again Another Hippocratic, Sarcastic Verbal
Bullshit from Management, that one thing has nothing to do with the other, Management at MIA/NMF States that the Reason that they didn't give us Thanksgiving lunch was because the lack of Revenue and no Reserve$$$ from the Company's Expense out of all the available balance of money that they had for the cost of the Company's Picnic, and that since half of the employees did not  go to the picnic that's probably why their mad and didn't buy us Thanksgiving lunch?  I mean ask yourself why would you  go to a company's picnic when you have so much Hypocrisum, Favoritism, Discrimination and Dividance against  Employees, so ask yourself why would you go to that company picnic. Only people without any Dignity or Scruples would actually go, and here's a better one the terminals that didn't have a company picnic got their Thanksgiving lunch, BULLSHIT! That's what Management here @ NMF is saying.
You know what people they can shove it up their Fucken Asses!
Oh by the way the Employee's in the office had their Thanksgiving lunch oh yeah who knows it could have been The Subcontractors PGA, it could have been The Terminal Manager or who knows the Company Maybe? That bought their Thanksgiving lunch WTF?! GO FIGURE.

    Part #2
And and here's another good  story @ NMF/MIAMI, you come to Management or your Supervisor or Operations Managers to ask them why would that Supervisor do something wrong, like the Inbound fork-lift drviers load up that way they do witch is wrong and the Answer you get is and I Quote  (WHY DON'T YOU ASK THEM YOURSELF ) Or you get this Answer, and I Quote  (THAT'S NOT MY FAULT OR PROBLEM )!  I mean what kind of Unprofessional Answer is that from your Management personal, know what people that's why These things happen at your Terminals because of a Response Anger Management with Ignorants and Hate. Well I think  their is 1 to many Supervisors or Operations in NMF/MIA today, but it's just a matter of time thats all until XPO comes cutting through. Good night and have a Happy Thanksgiving to all.

  10. Beginning Monday in all locations we will here some sad story of how Xpo Logistics is not doing well, the truth is they plan on laying off people to recover 4$$million dollars that they say they lost during the Purchase of Conway you will also hear that the will reduce or Eliminate lean as well and also the current VVT which does projects for employees in local loxations. They will start off by saying no way LEAN nor VVT will go away this is just a minor set back. They will also Eliminate the yearly bonus program and place a new one on line that goes like this, based on your Individual production is how you will be Evaluated and given a bonus, so some of you will receive a bonus and some will not based on your Production. The heat is on all manager's now and you will see a new Harassment way to Atack the Employee's don't believe them they are in it to force by XPO and will force you to work like no one else in the industry and they will reap the benefits from your sweat. Listen and ask questions on Monday Meeting, find out the truth now. Also, the meeting all managers just came from, this is what was told to them, either the manager's get on track and they or they will all be replaced, so the manager's will be attacking the staff and everyone to save their asses. You have been Warned!
