NLRB Certifies Con-Way Election

Teamsters Local 769 has been certified by the National Labor Relations Board as the exclusive collective bargaining representatives for Con-Way Freight, Inc. employees in Hialeah Florida.
” We’re glad the company did not pursue frivolous objections to the election and we look forward to collecting contract proposals and beginning collective bargaining.”, said Teamsters Local 769 President and Principal Officer Mike Scott.

Congratulations to our Con-Way brothers and sisters and we welcome you as our newest members of Teamsters Local 769. We look forward to negotiating a strong contract for the future of you and your families.

    1. Well not a single driver from ufv wanted to go testify against Conway's illegal behavior promising a pay raise in the middle of a organizing union campaign, offering the h.r. position to a line driver who influenced a lot of drivers to vote no, taking an accident away from another driver who drop a trailer a week before the vote I can go on and on,
now those ufv drivers are telling ubf drivers to vote no.
at the nlrb hearing Conway's lawyers lie in front of the labor judge saying numskull never promised a raise or never gave those guarantees sign on a piece of paper how about that for those fools who voted against the union.
For those ufv drivers who voted yes all you can do is wait for the nlrb decision

  19. Union Busting: A multi-million dollar industry to take away your rights

Over 60 million workers would join a union today if given the chance. However, despite their overwhelming will, most of those workers will not get the chance to vote for a union, even fewer will be successful in forming a union, and fewer still will be successful in earning a first contract. The propensity for workers to improve their workplace through organizing for better wages and benefits has created a shadow industry that charitably calls itself "union avoidance," but is more accurately referred to as union busting.

Companies whose workers are organizing to gain union representation will pay tens of thousands, and sometimes millions of dollars to law or consulting firms in order to defeat organizing drives rather than allocating that money towards quality wages and benefits for their employees. The disdain for unionization is so strong that oftentimes employers will spend more money on "union avoidance" than the employees are asking for in their contract demands.

While employers have always resisted efforts to organize, union-busting firms did not become prominent until the 1970's. There are now thousands of these firms across the country, and their rise has a direct correlation with the decline in union density from 29% of U.S. workers in 1964 to 13% today.

During an organizing campaign, 82% of employers will hire a union busting firm, and their strategies are generally similar. Consultants encourage employers to unfairly exert their power by holding captive audience meetings, forcing employees into one-on-one meetings with supervisors, and systematically undermining the law by firing or suspending union supporters. The ability for consultants and employers to break the law without repercussions, and to use fear and coercion to discourage employees from voting for a union is a major reason why we desperately need to pass the Employee Free Choice Act.

  54. THE PLAYBOOK OF UNION-BUSTING PROS AND REAL STORIES
    OF WORKERS WHO BEAT THEM.

When employees try to organize a union for a better and more secure job, employers often fight back strong – in the form of union-busting.

Union-busting is any action by management to prevent employees from exercising their right to organize. Union busting attorneys train supervisors on what to say to persuade workers to vote down a union. The “script” doesn’t change much. Whether you are a bus driver, a nurse, a tech, or a call center worker, employers will hire union busters who will train supervisors in this anti-union script, or “playbook.”

In this Union-Busting Playbook, you can find out about common union-busting strategies and even read and hear examples from workers who have been through tough campaigns.

    UPDATES FROM THE FIELD

EIGHT THINGS EMPLOYERS DO TO BLOCK UNIONS

    12345678

    1

    HIRE A UNION-BUSTING CONSULTANT

Lawyers and “labor-management” consulting firms get paid to help employers keep workers from exercising their right to form a union. Companies also send managers and supervisors to union-busting seminars and follow consultant-prepared “scripts” for keeping unions at bay.. They often pay thousands of dollars per employee to keep the union out — instead of putting that money into better pay, benefits and working conditions for employees. They bank on the idea that if they defeat a union once, following the script, they won’t have to do it again.

    NEXT

Union-busters follow a script — that's why it's easy for us to tell you what to expect from them. Here are a few common lies busters tell to try and dissuade workers from organizing.

“Having a union will ruin our ‘family’ work environment. Please give us another chance.”

Your employer might warn that with a union, there will be new rules and less flexibility. They might also play on workers’ emotions, making you think just talk about a union has made them realize there are problems and they should

  55. Fwd:Virtually ALL the benefits you have at work, whether you work in the public or private sector, all of the benefits and rights you enjoy everyday are there because unions fought hard and long for them against big business who did everything they could to prevent giving you your rights. Many union leaders and members even lost their lives for things we take for granted today.

  61. What would our country do without labor unions?
First, let's be clear about a labor unions role. The purpose of a labor union is to raise the standard of living of working people. That's really all there is to it. It's remarkably uncomplicated. By "standard of living" I mean wages, benefits and working conditions, all of which are acknowledged by federal labor law as legitimate topics of discussion for collective bargaining. Of course, the anti-union propagandists on that other page and disinformation purveyors like to pretend that unions are cesspools of greed, corruption and ineptitude and that the only things they care about are consolidating power and collecting monthly membership dues. That's the rancid version of unions they try to peddle. Unfortunately, many unsuspecting people actually believe these lies. If there were no unions in this country, there would be no resistance from working people. No resistance means, no leverage. And without leverage and without some form of bargaining power, we all become sheep. Without unions, you would have your classic "buyers' market," with management firmly in the driver's seat and working men and women along for the ride. Remember, unions lift wages for non-union members too by creating a higher prevailing wage. Even if you aren’t a member your pay is influenced by the strength or weakness of organized labor. The presence of unions sets off a wage race to the top. Their absence sets off a race to the bottom. We are approaching a situation in which the US population will consist of a tiny, super-rich elite, dominating a layer of people dangerously clinging to middle class status, and a mass of people living in, or on the edge of, poverty. So for all of you anti-union people, who think that unions are not needed today, think again!! Vote “YES”
