Management at the Laredo, TX
terminal is doing anything they can to convince their labor to say no to the
union. Among the list of many ridiculous and illegal lies, they've added a few.
They are saying that if the union comes in they will fire all dock workers
because the union doesn't allow dock only employees. The company has also said
that everyone gets to vote in the election, including temps and as absurd as it
sounds, the cleaning crew. They've also begun to punish dock only temps that
want to be put on "full-time" by not allowing them to get their CDL
once put on and not giving them any benefits. This terminal will be the front
line as we try to unionize this company. Once we get to a vote here, it will
include office, dock, city drivers and line drivers. Temps don't count as they
don't work for the company. Although once unionized there wouldn't be any more
temps. Wages will go up, insurance premiums will go down, stress will go down,
and job security will go up.
Laredo is on the move. Organization has begun. People are getting on board but the negativity is there. They see the movement and they are trying to prevent progress in anyway they can. I would like to mention one man that is using threats, bad mouthing the union, and just affirming management comments to already scared employees. This man's name is Hector Menchaca ca' ca' whatever his last name is, he is a brown nosier, he is discouraging employees from signing ballots and is trying to halt this organization. Management know something is happening. They are making hot dogs trying to smooth over the situation. Tensions are high. It is a fact everyone needs to work and everyone needs get paid. But all we want is just treatment. Look at a fellow driver in San Antonio fired with out a proper investigation to an accident while in route. This in union would have been fully investigated. Pay is the same we have more things to pay and no appreciation or encouragement.Con way is making money with us corporate sees they are paying low and getting work done at a good pace making profit to CON-WAY not the employees.
