Daddy's Angry

President of Con-Way Freight Inc, Gregory Lehmkuhl, said today that Laredo is divorcing Con-Way by going union and threatens that they are going to be alone. He goes on to say that Con-Way makes mistakes, but they won’t make any changes and won’t make it easy for them to negotiate! You don’t want change? You won’t be negotiating? What a perfect analogy you made Mr. Lehmkuhl, to suggest Laredo is “divorcing” Con-Way. This IS an abusive relationship and we are tired of the battered wife syndrome. You abuse us and then turn around and try to placate us with food and empty promises! Here is the truth, Laredo is not alone. 3 terminals in So Ca. have filed for petition with the NRLB. And 3 more are also filing in CA, not counting Northern CA. 7 states, with different terminals, will be petitioning for change soon. Just like a battered wife, we have a mediator to advocate on our behalf. We are going to keep fighting for our rights!

Just lies and propaganda. What is Con-Way gonna do stop servicing part of Texas, I think not. We are a publicly traded company and a for hire carrier so it won't be so easy for Con-Way to shut anything down in fact it probably isn't allowable. We are not asking for controlling stock in the company we want cheap to preferably free insurance, overtime after 8hrs across the board and better treatment period. This will not happen drivers without a bargaining unit that the Teamsters will give us. I worked for a teamster freight line before I came to Con-Way out of necessity and not by choice, the circumstances were unique and probably would never happen again in a lifetime. Anyway back to the point. These two environments are as different as night and day, at the teamster line you are treated with respect and there is a good relationship with management, at Con-Way not so much. Here's my take on free insurance and why it should be. When a piece of Con-Way equipment breaks down they fix it right. Well that equipment absolutely will not move freight without us operating it. We are as vital actually the most vital asset they have. When we work long hours and exhaust our bodies we from time to time become sick. They don't hesitate to take care of their precious equipment but it doesn't move without healthy employees, so in return they should have no problem taking care of us PERIOD! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT drivers for what we deserve. We work hard for it everyday.

The lack of overtime after 8 and over 40 since Con-way became one company is never set well with the hard working drivers of the south. The rest of the Con-way driver got overtime and we did not for we did not deserve it. The way I see it at $22.00 an hour I gave up a minimum of $440.00 a month or $5280 a year in additional pay. That would be $26400.00 on 5 years or a new car for my wife. Better numbers would be a newborns college education at 18 years or $95040.00 so that is just the difference between 40 and 50. How about all the years you got NONE! Sounds to me one company should have the same privileges across the board the pay difference not such a big deal I hope the Northern drivers get a big raise it is tough up there also. A good class action lawyer could grab a hold of this and fix this wrong for all the former CSE drivers still employed and for those who have moved own!! This is my opinion; and not to reflect any intent of malice!! LOTS OF DRIVERS WATCHING THE BOARDS AND THE BLOGS WAITING ON THE RESULTS!!

Conway is owned by share holders. In the end share holders will say I don't care how the company is ran as long as we get our money. They cannot shut down conway or terminals because conway is not family owned share holders own it and they just want there money. Don't let an employee of conway (management) scare u cause they don't have any authority to do anything. Do u think management wants to lose there job no they don't. They are people like u and I that need a paycheck like everybody else. So they will not shut down but learn to work differently by giving us driver some respect

Isn't it a bit disingenuous to claim all these union carriers went out of business simply because they were union? We don't know the reason that they went out and neither does greg or doug or anyone else they just use that meme as a tool to manipulate our emotions and in effect sway us into their way of thinking, well greg and doug, the solution to YOUR problem is an easy one however unwilling you may be to acknowledge it, it will not go away until you come to grips with it and do the right thing, integrity, remember its one of your core values, in reality your only core value is money, your unwillingness to be fair and reasonable has led us to where we are today and I dont think you will get much or any sympathy from the rank and file, certainly none from me!!!!!

I'm like many would I would never considered a union shop but would now, as this has become a abusive relationship. Our Management is tone deaf they don't want to hear anything we say! The Shareholders ought to fire Cooperate management for allowing it to get to the point that employees are looking for Union protection. We're watching on the East Coast. Congratulation.

I am proud of the guys at Laredo Its time someone stands up to them I am a former employee with quite a few years of my life invested in Conway and when I decided to leave the company I didn't even get as much as a thank you or is there anything we can do to change your mind.I now work for a company that treats me like I am somebody not to mention the pay well exceeds conways so called premium package I think others should support the decision these guys have made and really think about the future.

I am a 34 year teamster driver in the north east, working in the supermarket division. I'm proud to welcome all of you courageous people standing up for your rights to the teamsters. It is not easy to feel if you are making the right move, but trust me con way doesn't give a crap about any of you. Your just a #. They won't give you respect then Stand up collectively and take it. I have been at Conway for 30 years now and do my job very well keep my mouth shut just as you want but in all the years I have never seen anything like this We use to a good company to work with good management good benefits great pay bonus excellent pension , Over the years we now get crappy Insurance took away our best years for our pension and give us a penny raise and then bring on these terminal mangers that don't no how to even talk to us they are nothing more than we are except high pay until after you have screwed us then you get rid of them and train another dog , well you can sit behind your desk MR make up more lies and we are tired of it you have wasted so much money on hand held devices and cameras in our trucks and new uniforms that makes us look like a correction officer we go down the road and people think we are jokes because of your rules , YOu think we are pissed about the raise that's not it MR CEO we need union to work for us because your not and you never have we use to be taken care of until you took over we make Conway not you we do the work and you keep taken from us this needs to be world wide and some of the younger drivers and dock workers you have more to gain then us older ones , We Most of us will have to work until we die, You will will retire with millions , This company is not fair when you hire someone it's your buddy this all about a buddy system not what you no its who you NO , set up meetings and we are all looking at you and watching one lie after another come out your mouth why waste your time telling us something your not going to do , could have saved yourself lots of money by keeping our pensions and treating us as you would want to be treated hope you can sleep at nights! Union is a good thing we tried it your way you just got to greddy !

A meeting is going to take place today Sat 20 at ula a lot of conway "smart" people are going to sit and lay out the game plan on how they are going to approach us to persuade our vote. Most of the stuff is basic bull shit. They are going to choose certain managers and or fom 's to conduct the meetings with all groups. They will also pick out certain people and put them together to try and read their reactions once they are speaking about the union. They will use hidden words in their questions or sentences assuming you are part of it so once you try to answer you will be answering as if you are in it, giving yourself away. The stuff they will preach is that no carriers have done good with unions, they will tell us to remember what hpnd to c.f.. They will say that once another union member from another carrier comes to our terminal they will have more seniority. They will go on about how Laredo is still the same, union dues so on and so on all bullshit. Keep in mind that other carriers are having anty union meetings for their employees because of what is going on with us. And they are being fed the same exact lines they are feeding us. Why would they go through such a hassle to keep it out???? Ask yourself that question. All we want is RESPECT. And to be treated fairly. The difference is that with the union in we will have long lasting careers, and they will no longer be able to play the rotating door game where they hire you use you abuse you and when your done in comes the next young fast guy and we will be left with nothing. That is the difference and what they fear. Winston ula and Steve Herman ula dropped dime.

To get this going national we need to get some feedback on what is going on transferred to Northern States. Management came and talked to a few terminals with their basic bullshit and pack of lies and this is the first time that many of these DSR's heard about organizing. We have to get better. The information we get is only trickling in. We need to get trusted L/H drivers to start spreading the word on their nightly runs. I understand that things are in the works in XCO and XIN, but the rest of the terminals hear very little. I know their is some talks starting at XDE and possibly XPN, but very little here in Chicagoland. Am I out of the loop,have things started and I am unaware?

He's not my daddy. Just an out of touch corporate suit n tie that only cares about filling his and stockholders' pockets. Pensions are a necessity for retirement. Unfortunately, he doesn't think so. Today's wages and cost of living make it difficult to build a large enough nest to retire. Cost of living continues to go up during our golden years. We need the pension supplement that was promised to us when we first got hired.

In a meeting we had with Tim (second in command) we was told that the pension IS Never coming back and also wait to you go fill out for your benefits for the new year 2015 unreal we all might as well let them keep your pay check cause time they take it out we not making shit ! They can go back if they wanted to and do us a hell of alot better you can bet they have a better ins. They can tell you that there's is the same Boys its not!! I saw first hand and was told to keep quite your bonus maybe 200 there bonus Million ,do they have a pension why yes they can live off it when they retire us we might get 900 a mo don't know bout you but I can't live of that my grocery bil runs higher than that a mo so does my electric bill they are all full of lies and Bull shit!! National union is what Conway needs or else the day to day stress from them people going to kill us !!!

Tim is cool he is just keeping it real, it's a good chance that we will not get a pension no matter what, lupe told us how hard the company is going to make it for us to get a good contract, this means that they are Abel to give a lil more to the employees but choose not too. Lupes job is to discourage us by putting up a lot of obstacles in our mind to make us think it's impossible. There is nothing impossible!! This is a perfect example of how us the working class is always being brainwashed to think that we can not go any further. Ask Lupe a good question and he will say that he cannot answer. Nothing in life is easy or perfect but what counts is that at the end of the day you do what you think is real. This person Lupe is trained to change your mind in favor of the company. When Lupe or a higher conway manager gets the balls to answer our questions then they get respect. We are fighting for change for the better it's not easy but do not fold just because they put a barrier up. VOTE YES!!!! He is getting paid!!!! Do not let him get away with a win while we loose!
